Fieldwalker accepts JPEG, PNG, and GeoTIFF files. GeoTIFF files include embedded geolocation data, which Fieldwalker uses automatically for contour generation and feature detection. Standard JPEG and PNG files can be manually georeferenced using the built-in tool.

If your image doesn't include embedded geolocation data, you can manually georeference it by placing control points on recognisable features (building corners, road intersections, etc.) and matching them to their real-world coordinates. Fieldwalker guides you through this process step by step.

Yes — drone imagery often provides much higher resolution than satellite tiles. If your drone captures georeferenced images (common with DJI and other mapping drones), upload the GeoTIFF directly. For standard drone photos, use the manual georeferencing tool.

In Australia, Fieldwalker uses LiDAR-derived elevation data from Geoscience Australia's Web Coverage Service, providing 5-metre resolution across populated areas. For international locations, contours are generated from global SRTM elevation data via AWS Terrain Tiles at approximately 30-metre resolution. Both are real measured elevation data, not interpolated estimates. You can also upload your own GeoTIFF DEM for the highest possible accuracy anywhere. The free Contour Data Availability Assessment shows you exactly what data is available for your specific site.

Yes. You can set the contour interval to suit your design needs — tighter intervals for detailed garden-scale work, wider intervals for broad property overviews. You also control the colour, opacity, and line weight of the contour display.

Fieldwalker automatically uses the best available data for your location — 5m LiDAR in Australia, ~30m SRTM data globally. If neither source provides the resolution you need, you can upload your own GeoTIFF elevation data from a surveyor, drone, or other source — this takes highest priority and overrides the automatic sources. The Data Improvement Request feature lets you flag your location so we can investigate additional data sources.

The detection pipeline identifies buildings, tree canopy, water features (dams, creeks, ponds), fences, and roads from satellite or aerial imagery. Accuracy varies depending on image quality and landscape type — dense vegetation areas are more challenging than open paddocks.

Every detection can be reviewed individually. You can accept it, reject it (mark as "not a real feature"), or reclassify it to a different feature type. These corrections are captured as feedback that helps improve future detection accuracy.

Yes. Accepted detections can be converted directly into design symbols in Design mode. A detected building becomes a building symbol, detected trees become canopy symbols, and so on. This gives you a head start on your design.

You can upgrade from the free plan to Designer or Pro at any time from your account settings. Your upgrade takes effect immediately and you'll be billed from that date. You keep all your existing projects and data.

Yes, cancel anytime from your account settings. You'll keep access to your paid features until the end of your current billing period. After that, your account reverts to the free plan — your projects and data are preserved, but you won't be able to generate new contours or run AI detections beyond the free tier limits.

Your images and project data are stored securely on AWS S3 with encryption. Authentication uses bcrypt-hashed passwords over HTTPS. We don't sell your data or share it with third parties. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
