V1.0 — Auto-Detect, rebuilt (21 August 2026)
The big one. Auto-Detect has been rebuilt from the ground up based on how people were actually using it, and Fieldwalker now carries a proper version number (you'll find it in the app footer).
We made some improvements to this earlier in the month, but realised we needed to go much further. And with this release we are officially out of Beta and onto Version 1.0!
The redesigned review step is much faster
The old flow asked you to approve every detection before anything landed on your map. On a decent-sized block that meant grinding through hundreds of small decisions before you saw anything. So I've turned it around.
- Everything the scan finds goes straight onto your map. No queue to work through. You see the result first, then you tune it.
- Five category controls in place of the per-item list. Trees, Forest, Buildings, Water and Cleared each get a row with a Less–More slider and a show/hide toggle. Around 500 individual decisions collapse down to five.
- Readouts in units that mean something. Counted features show counts ("Showing 1,089 of 1,142 trees"). Areas show hectares ("Marking 12.4 ha of forest"). If everything found is already showing, the row says so.
- A fine-tune list for object-level control. Hover a row and it lights up on the map; hover the map and it lights up the row. Jump the map to any object. Shift-click to grab a run of rows and Keep or Remove them in one go.
- One press to commit. "Add detected objects to map" turns everything into ordinary design objects you can edit like anything else. If you've got categories hidden, it asks whether to include them. Anything you left pending stays pending and can be picked up later. Nothing lost, nothing duplicated.
- The panel gets out of your way once you've committed, leaving a summary of what went on the map and a route back to whatever's still waiting.
Point Detect has been retired
The click-to-identify tool has gone. The new Auto-Detect covers the same ground with a lot less effort. It may come back in some form for the individual features that are genuinely hard to spot.
Editor fixes and polish
- The map no longer breaks after your computer sleeps. Wake a Mac and you'd find a blank or doubled-up canvas. The editor now notices the wake and repairs itself.
- Objects inside large areas are selectable again. A big forest or cleared region was swallowing clicks meant for the things sitting inside it.
- Water body highlights line up. Review highlights on dams and ponds were sitting offset from the drawn shape. They trace it exactly now.
- Selection colour is tangerine, matching the detection review highlight, so selected looks the same everywhere you go.
- Refreshed editor icons — new Design (pencil and ruler) and Layers glyphs in the sidebar.
- Tidier Design tab — map style settings fold into a one-line card until you need them.
- Deleting the last detected object on a map didn't stick. Delete legacy detected objects one at a time down to an empty list and a data-safety guard would quietly refuse the change, so they'd reappear on refresh. Fix is underway. Fixed in V1.0.1
Earlier fixes (10–19 August 2026)
Field testing turned up a batch of detection and rendering issues, all now fixed: duplicate suppression tuning, region rendering artefacts, review highlights that trace the real outline of an object rather than drawing a box around it, and the map panning to whichever row you're reviewing.
The parcel picker came back after a regression, hotfixed on 10 August.
